(Feb. 3, 2012) Cape Cod Five, which last year became the first new full-service bank to establish a physical presence on the island in nearly two centuries, officially opened its Zero Main Street branch Friday morning with a ribbon-ceremony outside the building.

Cape Cod Five, which in the spring of 2010 began offering commercial and residential mortgages, wealth management and estate-planning services by appointment, opened a branch at 6 West Creek Road early last year, and announced plans to become a downtown presence last spring.

For decades, Nantucket was served by just two banks with branch offices on the island, both of which have roots that extend back to the early 19th century: Nantucket Bank, now owned by Spanish financial-services giant Banco Santander, was founded as the Nantucket Institution for Savings in 1834; and Pacific Bank, now part of Bank of America, was chartered in 1804.

To celebrate the grand opening, Cape Cod Five is offering a number of promotions, including a raffle.
